Slices of Life
Ethnographic films event I have co-curated at the Ethnological Museum and Museum of Asian Art Berlin.
Editions 2022 and 2024.
Forschungs- Campus Dalhem
Cultures – Research – Things – Knowledge
The Forschungscampus Dahlem (FC Dahlem) is a new research and presentation venue of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SPK), where different competencies come together to develop and convey knowledge about material and immaterial cultures.
I have been part of the curatorial process of the space and produced the visual installation now part of the exhibition space.
The Global Cultural Assembly
In September 2022, the Humboldt Forum in Berlin opened the last parts of its permanent exhibitions. More than 80 international guests came to mark the occasion and developed ideas and made demands for the future of the forum and the museums in a workshop week organized by the Ethnological Museum, the Museum of Asian Art and the Humboldt Forum Foundation in the Berlin Palace. The results of this week are summarized in the paper "Dignity - Transparency - Continuity". One of the ideas is the "Indigenous Embassy". In October 2023, ten international partners developed this idea further into the Global Cultural Assembly, the GCA, in a new workshop week in Berlin.
You will find an exhibition space on the 3rd floor of the Humboldt Forum that will show and accompany the work of the GCA.
I have been part of the curatorial process of the space and produced the visual installation now part of the exhibition space.
Tales of Motion
As one of the curators of this special evening, I had the pleasure of presenting a curated night of animated short films at @studio.db.berlin on Tuesday, April 1st.
The event brought together the work of seven incredibly talented animators, each showcasing their unique voice and approach to the medium. Through this program, we aimed to highlight the richness and diversity within the world of animation — from delicate, hand-crafted techniques to bold, experimental visuals.
We opened the evening with a community BBQ at 18:30, creating a warm and welcoming space for guests to gather and connect. The screenings began promptly at 20:30, followed by a Q&A session that offered deeper insight into each artist’s process, inspirations, and storytelling approach.
The featured filmmakers included:
— Alisi Telengut @alisitelengut
— Giulia Falciani @fagiana3animation
— Emilia Zieser @emilia.zieser
— Felicia Bergström @felicia_bergstr.o.m
— Carolina Cruz @lucilux.de
— Jelena Milunovic @hex_ara
— Yaka Hara @yaka_hara
To close out the night, VJ @onetwothreesun and DJ @amanitaa__ transformed the space with an immersive audio-visual set that beautifully wrapped up the evening.
This event was co-curated in collaboration with @studio__fazi, and brought to life visually through the brilliant work of @blob.designs.
We’re so grateful to everyone who came out, shared space, and celebrated the many forms and languages of animation with us. It was truly a night to remember.
Shared Histories – Collaboration in Ethnographic Film
25.09. to 28.09.2025
The Ethnologisches Museum presents 16 films made between 1914 and 2022 dedicated to the topic of „collaboration“ in the history of ethnographic film, examined from multiple perspectives and film genres.
Can films, gazes, images be restituted? What forms of collaboration or “shared histories” can exist in ethnographic film? What new approaches can be used to open up a collaborative examination of the colonial legacy of the archives and a new dialogue with various actors, filmmakers and Indigenous communities? The film series addresses these current discourses of decolonisation and participation in knowledge and transformation processes in close collaboration with Indigenous filmmakers and archives worldwide.
The films – including Berlin premieres, new digital restorations and analogue archive film prints – will be screened in the original language with English subtitles and accompanied by introductions and post-screening discussions with filmmakers, protagonists, film scholars and ethnologists. Lectures on the film archive of the Ethnologisches Museum and the film restoration work will shed further light on the challenges of bringing back major works of ethnographic cinema to life. Finally, an international panel discussion will conclude the series.
An English-language, richly illustrated volume with 13 essays by international filmmakers, ethnologists, film critics and film scholars will be published on the occasion of the film series.
I’m pleased to be working on this event by creating visual content and supporting the curatorial team with production and outreach. Additionally, I will be producing audiovisual documentation throughout the event days.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!
